As a kid in the sixties, the original Star Trek was one of my favorite TV shows. However, even with my vivid imagination, I never thought that any of the fictional technology shown would ever become fact in my lifetime.
Two once-fictional examples of Star Trek technology are now commonplace fact:

Lt. Uhura's fictional communications earpiece compared to today's bluetooth earpiece
1960s era Star Trek communicator compared to a cell phone
To read about other Trek-tech that could possibly become fact:
How Close Are We to Star Trek Technology?
But there were things that I expected then to be facts today that we're still waiting for. As an example, I thought we'd have landed on Mars by now. We'd gone from Sputnik to landing a man on the moon in a little over ten years. So, it wasn't unreasonable for me to have thought we'd have visited Mars by 2000 at least.
Thoughts?
Star Trek!!! YIKES!!! Here I haven't read you in a few days and I come
back to find Star Trek!?@?#? Sorry, I'm having a childhood flashback to my
old house with my sister's old, old boyfriend forcing us to watch this
blasted piece of camp..... Now, if we're talking Deep Space Nine, I'm all
over it. But you're right. The similar technology is quite interesting.
I'd have thought they would use the space shuttle for more. Star trek was
cool. Even the fantasy technology was cool. You can still watch it today
and it's cutting edge. Honey and I caught an old Miami Vice episode the
other day, which we thought was cool at one time, it was more like a comedy
with the clothing and shoe box sized cell phones. Star Trek is still cool.
