Persistence of Summer

This painting, done by Salvador Dali in 1931, is known as "Persistence of Memory".   Because of the colors used and the melted clocks, I've always thought of this one as "The Persistence of Summer".

I've always liked Dali's work, because the surrealism reminds me of the dream world, and I'm guessing that much of his inspirations had to have come from his dreams.

Thoughts?

I've always loved Dali too - you want to talk about a surreal experience ... when I went to Fredericton, New Brunswick (a Canadian maritime province - we talking TINY) to take my first degree, while learning the town I walked into the local art gallery ... and was struck dumb - the most GORGEOUS HUGE Dali I've ever seen - and when I checked - GENUINE - and not one but FOUR genuine Dali's including Santiago Del Grande - this absolutely stunning classic Dali! http://www.beaverbrookartgallery.org/collections-res ults.asp?index=1&title=&artist=Dali,%20Salvador&nationality=&DOD=&DOB=&mate rials=&CreatedDate=&Submit=Find%20It! copy this and you can see it or do a search for Beaverbrook Art Gallery - it rocks! I called my dad and he couldn't believe it either - in this tiny town in this tiny province ...

I like the painting, it does remind you of a dreamy state of mind.

I've always said if I had the talent to actually paint what I see in my head I'd be famous.

Dali's stuff is so cool. I saw an exhibition of his paintings and sculpture one time and have been hooked ever since. I mostly just appreciated them as "wow, that's cool," but then one of my colleagues who teaches Spanish and himself had a love for Dali started pointing out different things in the prints that I had and I got to appreciate his work even a little more.

I love the color, but the subject matter leaves me depressed and hot (not fun hot, Africa hot).

There is a Salvador Dali museum in St. Pete FL near The Pier there that I would like to go to the next time I am there. His stuff is so cool.
