I had a pretty good day yesterday. I went to my primary lover's apartment for the day and it was just the two of us -- my son had been invited to a friend's house for a meal, and had decided to accept.
Jen made enough food to keep us both eating for week. It was a traditional Thanksgiving menu and we both stuffed ourselves to the gills. Afterwards, I wasn't good for anything -- I just wanted to sack out. She was feeling likewise, so we both stripped down and got into bed -- and promptly fell asleep! We napped the afternoon away, but when we awakened a few hours later, we had our "dessert".
I left shortly thereafter, as my son had called and wanted to spend a little time on the holiday with me. He came by the house and we watched some stupid movie. After he left, I surfed on the net for a bit, read awhile, then went to bed.
Waking up this morning, I still didn't feel very hungry, and I'm only now beginning to regain my appetite as I'm typing this and I'll attend to my lunch after I post this entry.
Today is traditional the busiest shopping day of the year, commonly referred to as "Black Friday". There is no way in hell that I'd get anywhere near any shopping center today. There's nothing I want that badly to brave the frenzied hordes of shoppers, nor the traffic jams. One would think that the increase of internet shopping would mitigate the effects of Black Friday, but this doesn't seem to be the case. And I think that as long as retailers carry on the practice of offering an extremely limited supply of a popular item at a very low price, we'll continue to see the idiocy of Black Friday.
Chaaaaaaaaaaaarge.....it!
As for me, I'm going to observe Buy Nothing Day. Buy Nothing Day was started in 1992 in Canada as "as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption." In the US, it is traditionally celebrated on the day after Thanksgiving as a counterpoint to Black Friday. Outside the US, it is observed on the Saturday after the American Thanksgiving.
What will you do? Brave the consumer crowds for a bargain, shop online, or observe Buy Nothing Day?
Just say "hell no!" to shopping the day after Thanksgiving. I'd like to say
it's a moral stand against rampant consumerism and over-consumption, but
the truth is I just don't want to go out in that mess.
I'd rather have a colonoscopy than go shopping the day after Thanksgiving.
I barely got out of bed ('cept to forage in the kitchen). :)
Eating, napping, no shopping! My kind of holiday. What a gang!
Sounds like you had a good time. I didn't go shopping the day after
Thanksgiving, I had to work, which was fine with me.
