I remember being totally fascinated by the whole thing when I was a kid. I
think I first saw it on some time-travel TV series, and then I looked into
more from there.
The topic of the Titanic was always a biggie at the library, even years
before the last movie came out. That whole story caused me to take up
swimming for awhile as I had these nightmares of drowning. Of course the
people in the water didn't necessarily drown, they froze to death.
The Titanic has always been fascinating to me. You have to stop and think
of all the people that died, all the men that died on the ship, amazing.
Imagine freezing to death, how awful. I have this fear of drowning, I can't
stand water getting up around my neck and face when I'm in a pool. I would
rather freeze to death than drown.
Everybody remembers the Titanic, but who know remembers the disaster of the
Sultana, in 1865, more than 1700 died, mostly Union Soldiers who had lived
through the horrific Confederate Concentration POW Camps like
Andersonville. It too is an interesting story more should learn about.
